Institution’s Innovation Council, ACS College of Engineering was organised Webinar and Ideathon on 5G for ACS Students on 23rd & 24th Apr 2020. Around 75 students and faculty members were attended. Dr.Ramanan, President-IIC welcomed all the participants and then Dr.G.Vinoth addressed about the Ideathon process on 5G. This Hackathon was aimed at shortlisting India focussed cutting edge ideas that can be converted into workable 5G products and solutions. He explained the importance of this technology and the main involvement of this webinar on 5G (Fifth Generation) mobile network which is seen as user-centric concept instead of operator-centric as in 3G or service-centric concept as seen for 4G. He also proposed the mobile user is on the top of all. The 5G terminals will have software defined radios and modulation scheme as well as new error-control schemes can be downloaded from the Internet on the run. The development is seen towards the user terminals as a focus of the 5G mobile networks. He motivated all IIC students to participated in this hackathon and submit the ideas.

He explained the process of 5G Hackathon and how to convert innovating ideas into products and solutions in different verticals and develop India specific Use cases around 5G. Various phases of the Hackathon broadly include preliminary submission of ideas, selection of 100 best ideas, mentorship and support from the Hackathon partners, development of solutions/products, selection and testing of 30 best solutions/ products on 5G trial network followed by felicitation of the 3 best ideas during India Mobile Congress (IMC), 2020. He informed that all students or faculty can develop 5G solutions from across 10 categories including Healthcare, Education & Governance, AgriTech & Livestock, Environment, Public Safety & Disaster Management Enterprise, Smart Cities & Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Banking, Finance & Insurance, Logistics & Transportation, Multimedia & Broadcast, among others
