Yes, you read the title right. This kiddo is working for IBM already while kids his age are still into spiderman and pokemon cartoons and sports. When asked about it, he calls his father , a hard core programmer himself as the spark behind his interest. As a kid he used to find reading hello world as screen savers magical and so began his interest and journey in computer programming. Today at 12, he has couple of apps already to his name in the app store and a recognition of being the world’s youngest IBM Watson programmer.
The first app he developed helps kids learn multiplication tables and this app was accepted in play store when he was just about 9 years of age. Amazing, isn’t it? What’s more he has is own you tube channel where he creates videos in order to help other programmers with computer programming. This is not it, he is also a keynote speaker, Honorary IBM cloud advisor, IBM champion for cloud and Hello Swift author. Furthermore he hosts the Facebook live series known as Watson Made Simple with Tanmay which boasts of a mammoth 12000 followers. Even more, while getting invited to a TEDx event is still a distant dream for many adults, this opportunity apparently knocked Tanmay’s door in 2017. For those who are not aware of this unique event, it is a platform where brilliant speakers are invited to speak, engage and interact with people and help them generate new ideas.
Tanmay has already expressed his desire in taking up the field of healthcare through artificial intelligence which is still a virgin territory chosen by very few minds. But, he is even more willing to work towards people living with disabilities.
He is now 14 and but when he started coding he was just five. He used sit with his dad and watch him code. His father immediately sensed his interest in the subject and started teaching him the trade. He was only 7 when he set up his own you tube channel where he posted tutorials on web development and coding. Today he has around 2 lac subscribers and he is on with a mission to help out 1 lac aspiring kids as well as beginners through their coding journey.
Though Tanmay frankly accepted that he had lost interest in programming because he was aware that as soon as you put up something it becomes obsolete. His interest was retained only when he stumbled upon a documentary about artificial intelligence on the internet called question answering machine IBM Watson.
He also discovered a bug in IBMS service known as Document conversion and was used to convert documents from one format to another within minutes and posted it on his twitter handle. This is how he came in touch with IBMers who later became his mentors and helped him collaborate with the company.
Today though honorary he is invited to talk at many conferences and is already a self-taught AI expert and is already working on projects around artificial intelligence and healthcare.
