About the Programme:

Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka organization, jointly organized one day National level Faculty Development Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights at ACS College of Engineering, Bangalore at 10.00 am on, 28th January 2017. The workshop aims to provide the basic information and awareness on IPR spectrum from innovation to commercialization and also discuss the present scenario of IPR in academia and requirement of the IP Cell. The targeted audiences are from the faculties from various Engineering Colleges across the country. This workshop will cover different topics of IP Management from introduction to IPR and best practices of IP Cell in educational institutions by renounced speakers. The key topics that would be covered during the workshop are mainly: – Introduction to IPR – Patentability Criteria with case studies – Patenting Procedure and Prior-art Search – IP Commercialization.

The workshop on intellectual property rights (IPR) awareness programme jointly organized by Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre. Government of Karnataka and ACS College of Engineering (ACSCE) on 28/01/2017 at 10:00 am in second floor Seminar hall, ACSCE.

Prof. Sunilraj B.A, Asst. Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development Cell Coordinator have opened the session by addressing the gathering about the agenda of the event. The floral welcome was given to all the guests by the senior Professors of ACSCE.

Ms. Prabhavathi Rao, Program Coordinator, WTO & IPR Relay Cell, Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Dept of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka, Clearly explained about the importance of Patents in the science and technology field and stressed on the importance of innovative ideas and also explained about the support given to the educational institution and for the engineering students for the innovative project from the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Government of Karnataka.

In the morning session Mr. Madhusudhan S T, Senior Associates, K & S partner, Bangalore, have given the session on Overview of the Intellectual Property Rights Spectrum: An Introduction from 10.30 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. In the next session i.e from 12.00 p.m to 1.15 p m clearly explained about what are the product which can be patent. He conveys the clear information about the procedure of filling the patent.

In afternoon session Dr. S Rama Murthy Intellectual Property Specialist and Former Head-IPR, Centre for Emerging Technologies, Jain University, Bengaluru has given technical talk for two hours on Patent Portfolio Management: Road to Commercialization.

More than 24 participants (the faculties across the country of various engineering colleges) attended the program. The programme helped to create awareness and importance of Intellectual Property Rights.

The workshop is ended with vote of thanks given by Prof. Sunil Raj B.A, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and co-coordinator of the programme.
