About the Program

With the support of Management, Principal Dr. Murali M S, Head of the Department Dr. Siddesha H S and the department faculty, the Department of Mechanical Engineering organizedthe one-day webinar “Tailor-made Nanomaterials for Applications in Sensors, LEDs, and Water Remediation” on Friday, 5th June 2020, from 10.30AM to 12PM.

The resource person is Dr. Mohamed Shuaib bin Mohamed Saheed, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), MALAYSIA.

The online platform was ZOOM android application. Firstly, principal Dr. M S Murali, ACS College of Engineering, Bengaluru welcomed the resource person and the participants and introduced the speaker to all the participants.

Dr. Mohamed Shuaib Mohamed Saheed received his Ph.D. from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in 2014. During his study, he focused on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes for the detection of gases using the ionization principle. He is currently in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UTP as a senior lecturer and a member ofthe Centre of Innovative Nanostructures and Nanodevices (COINN). His research interests are mainly on the development and study of carbon-based nanomaterials such as CNT, graphene, MXene, and hybrids for various applications in sensors (strain, gas, bio-) and water remediation (oil, dye, heavy metals, organic solvents absorption/adsorption).

He also obtained Patents

• PI 2018701801 in Malaysia, An Absorbent, and Method of Preparing Thereof.

• PI 2013700730 in Malaysia, Gas Detector for Ammonia and Method of Making Same

• PI 2014001317 in Malaysia, A Portable Carbon Dioxide Detector

The Speaker briefed about the Nanotechnology, Type of Nano Materials, Development Strategies for Nano Materials, Nano Material applications, Graphene-CNT based oil absorbent,Graphene-Mxenes Strain Sensor, etc.

There was an overwhelming response from participants around 220+ participants registered for this program, which includes more number of faculties from various colleges of our country and other countries.

More number of participants raised the questions with the expert and clear their doubts. The webinar ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr. Siddesha H S, Head of the department, Mechanical Engineering Department
